Informatie:

Working at our company

Bernardushof is a large asparagus farm. During the season we work with around 150 people. We try to create a safe, respectful and friendly place to work and live. Many workers come back to us every year,

The work

  • We work during the asparagus season (may - june). This is the busy time of the year.

  • Tasks are divided by type of work:

    • Field work (mostly men): cutting asparagus in the field.

    • Sorting and packing (mostly women): sorting by size and quality and packing for sale

  • Everyone works together as one team to make the harvest successful.

Experience with asparagus is not required. We will teach you everything.

Housing

3. Housing

We provide housing for all seasonal workers.

Our accommodation includes:

  • Heating

  • Kitchen

  • Toilet and bathroom

  • Fridge and freezer

  • Beds and bed linen

You do not need to bring your own mattresses or blankets.

We try to place couples and family members together in the same room or house when possible, so you can stay together during the season.

Working hours and salary

  • We normally work 5 days and 1 day off after.

  • We try to give couples the same free day, so you can rest together.

  • Your working hours start when the workday begins, including the drive to the fields if the distance is longer. You do not lose time because of transport to the field.

We offer bonuses for good performance as a reward for hard work and quality. This gives you the chance to earn extra money if you work well.

Your salary is paid by bank transfer, usually once per month, according to our agreement.

Support and training

No experience is required. We give you time and help to learn.

  • Experienced workers show you step by step how to do the job.

  • We explain how to keep the quality of the asparagus high.

  • There is always someone to ask if you have questions or problems, in the field and in the packing area.

We want you to feel comfortable, learn quickly and become part of the team.

FAQ

How far is the accommodation from the work?

The distance is usually less than 15 minutes by car. We organise transport for you, so you do not need your own car to go to work.

What if I have problems with my work?

If you have difficulties with your job, we will give you extra training and support from experienced workers. We try to keep a positive and helpful atmosphere. We want you to improve, not to feel stressed.

Can I choose my free day?

Your free day is planned in agreement with the planning at the farm. We try to take your personal wishes into account. For couples and family members we try to give the same free day whenever possible.

What happens if I am late for work?

We expect everyone to be on time.
If you know you will be late, please inform us at least 1 hour before the start of work.

We will always try to find a solution, but if you are late many times without a good reason, this can have consequences for your job.

Can I continue working after the season?

This depends on the available work and the season.
We stay in contact with good workers and give them priority for the next season.

Are there social activities?

Yes. During the season we like to take breaks together with the whole team and the management. On birthdays, the management arranges a treat.

The owner also has a birthday during the season. Then we invite a fries truck and everyone can eat and drink together. There is also a billiard table and a ping pong table for free time.

How is my salary paid?

Your salary is paid monthly by bank transfer, according to the agreements we make with you at the start of your work.

What if I cannot work because of illness or an accident?

If you are ill or injured and cannot work, please tell us as soon as possible. We will try to help and find a solution. If there is lighter work that you can still do, we may offer you that.

If you cannot work for a long time, this can affect your salary.

Can I take holiday during the season?

Holiday during the season is possible only after talking with us.
We do not give holidays around Easter weeks because this is our busiest period.
